A sudden, intense cloudburst between Chicago and Madison, Wisconsin has the bus taking on water in a few places. The roof vent and windshield weatherstripping are not as impervious as previously believed. The humidity spiked to 100% in minutes. We stopped under an overpass and I felt like I'd been slapped in the face with a hot, wet blanket.

The cool quiet and cold water are a blessing after not having had a shower in a few days. I'm sitting on a log with my feet dangling in the water and minnows are nibbling on my toes. It seems strange to be in a swimming hole in the middle of America on a Tuesday afternoon.

Drinking wonderful Kentucky bourbon after the show with the guys and the Tim Seely band did me in. 3 a.m. Tomorrow's a day off.

"Excuse me, do you know how to get back to the highway?"

"Lookit this, a fuckin' Irishman tellin' an American how to get around..."

"Well, it's a big country. I can't be responsible for all of it."
